The responsibilities of this part-time position include (but are not limited to): choosing and playing hymns and other music that are appropriate for church season and accompanying liturgy for Sunday worship services; coordinating and collaborating with other musicians to enhance worship including the redevelopment of a choir as possible.

Minimum Qualifications:

Church Musician/Choir Director Position

Hope United Methodist Church is currently conducting a search for a part-time Church Musician/Choir Director. Hope UMC is a small, friendly church located on the beautiful Belchertown common. We are welcoming and affirming to all. This position will be available beginning July 2022 or earlier. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person of faith to play the organ and piano at weekly services and to lead weekly choir rehearsals, providing musical guidance and direction. The candidate should be able to interpret various styles of church music from traditional to contemporary and demonstrate communication, leadership, and organizational skills in a collaborative environment.

Church Musician/Choir Director Responsibilities:

Selecting and playing appropriate keyboard music for worship services.
Selecting music for worship services that are appropriate for the liturgy, scripture and worship theme, in conjunction with the pastor and/or Worship Team.
Rehearsing, directing and accompanying the choir at regularly (weekly) scheduled worship services and additional services, (e.g. Advent/Christmas, Holy Week) as required, between Labor Day and mid-June.
Accompanying musicians for summer music as needed.
Managing the church’s music library with the assistance of volunteer choir members.
Regularly reporting music titles to licensing agencies (OneLicense and CCLI) to conform to copyright law as it applies to live-stream and video recording and projection of worship services or other special services (e.g. weddings, funerals) via Facebook or Zoom.
Playing for special occasions such as weddings and funerals, for additional compensation.
Church Musician/Choir Director Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree (completed or in process) in music, music education or related music field is preferred.
Experience or training as a church musician- keyboard and choirs.
Experience with various styles of church music, from traditional to contemporary.
Leadership and communication skills.
Patience, creativity and flexibility.

First Congregational Church of Ashfield MA

First Congregational Church UCC of Ashfield, MA, an Open and Affirming Congregation, seeks an experienced musician to play organ and piano for weekly Sunday morning worship as well as accompany the choir for twenty-six mid-week rehearsals/Sundays. Position is approximately quarter time. Ashfield is a rural community with easy access to the Five College Area which includes the UMass flagship campus as well as Smith, Mount Holyoke, Amherst, and Hampshire Colleges. Additional opportunities arise to play with a variety of guest instrumentalists and soloists. Classical training is preferred, with ability to work in other styles. The Organist/Choir Accompanist works closely with the minister, choir director, and worship team. The sanctuary holds a recently restored 1903 George Reed tracker organ and a baby grand piano. The United Congregational Church of Holyoke, MA, an Opening and Affirming Congregation

Primary Function
The Music Director develops and leads the worship music ministry for the church, in
consultation with the Pastor, Music Committee, Worship Planning Committee and other
members as necessary, in a way that is consistent with the mission, values, and theology of the
Haydenville Congregational Church.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Determine Music for Worship Services
In conjunction with the Worship Planning Committee, determine music for the Sunday
worship service that supports the thematic elements of the service and serves as
spiritual inspiration to the congregation. Prepare music for up to 3 “special services”
outside of Sunday worship (e.g., Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday).
Direct Choir
Prepare and direct the choir at Sunday services and special services as scheduled.
Conduct at least one hour of rehearsal each week. Schedule and conduct extra
rehearsals as required. Play piano/organ at weekly rehearsals and special rehearsals.
Recruit new choir members and order choral music as needed.
Organist/Pianist
Perform at scheduled Sunday services and special services as required. Perform at
weddings and funerals, if available (standard fee will be paid for each such
performance). Secure substitute Organist/Pianist as needed.
Administration
Select and purchase music, music supplies and instruments within the allotted budget.
Ensure proper care and operation of instruments, and schedule annual inspection and
servicing of the organ.
Committees
The Music Director is, by Bylaw, a permanent member of the Music Committee and the
Worship Planning Committee. Meet weekly with the Worship Planning Committee to
plan and coordinate music for worship services. Meet quarterly with the Music
Committee to review music selections, create opportunities for varied participation such
as solos, duets, trios, etc., and discuss further development of the music program.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's Degree in music or equivalent experience. Familiarity with liturgical music. Ability to
clearly and effectively express musical direction. Ability to motivate, direct and lead members of
all ages. Proven competence and facility on piano; competence on the organ preferred, but not
required.
Hours and Compensation
This is a part-time position requiring approximately 12 hours per week, but the actual amount
of time required will vary from week-to-week across the year. The position provides three weeks
vacation time during the beginning of July, and up to two additional Sundays off to be scheduled
in consultation with the Worship Team. The annual salary for this position is $15,000

First Unitarian Church Worcester MA 90 Main St. Worcester MA 01608 508-757-2708

The First Unitarian Church of Worcester Mass is seeking an Interim Music Director to direct the choir and provide keyboard (preferably organ) music for Sunday services during a transition following the retirement of our long-term Music Director. The term for the Interim Director will run from September of 2022 through June of 2023. The First Unitarian church has a large membership drawn from the greater Worcester area who attend in-person and on-line religious services. Music is a very important part of services at First Unitarian. The choir, comprised of 30 volunteer singers who are members of the congregation and professional singers, provides anthems and hymn support for three Sundays per month. Their repertoire ranges from classical to southern gospel, and they are frequently joined by guest instrumentalists. Keyboard instruments available at First Unitarian include an Aeolian Skinner 4-manual organ, twin Steinway B7 Grand pianos and a 2-manual harpsichord. PRINCIPAL MUSICIAN
The Principal Musician will support the mission of Franklin United Methodist Church by
supporting and deploying musical talent to enhance the worship of the church. This position
requires a person who is responsible, accountable, and has a cooperative attitude. The Principal
Musician will collaborate with the Worship Team and report directly to the pastor.
Outline of Responsibilities
• Accompany worship 36 times per year, including Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, and
Christmas Eve. Approximately 3 times per month.
• Maintain a schedule and recruit musicians (paid and volunteer) to accompany worship, at
all regularly scheduled worship services during the year and all occasional worship
services held at Franklin United Methodist Church, including Ash Wednesday, Holy
Week, Easter, and Christmas Eve. Franklin United Methodist Church offers 55-57
worship services per year (excluding weddings and funerals).
• Rehearse, at least one hour before the service, with the Choir and with other musical
groups and individuals who participate in worship.
• Consult at all weddings and funerals to arrange for music played at Franklin United
Methodist Church. Guest musicians may be used only with the permission of the
Principal Musician or the Pastor.
• Report to the Resource Committee the condition and needs for the maintenance of the
church organ, pianos, and all other musical instruments owned by the church. The
church will properly maintain all musical instruments subject to the constraints of the
annual budget.
• Meet with the Personnel Committee, or its designee, and the Pastor for annual review.
• Abide by the requirements of employment as laid out in the Franklin United Methodist
Church Employee Handbook.
• Adhere to Franklin United Methodist Church’s Child Protective Policy and Guidelines
and The United Methodist Book of Discipline.
Relevant Skills Sets
• Proficiency in organ and keyboard, including the ability to site read moderately difficult
music.
• Must be able to accompany vocalists, other musicians, and the congregation in liturgical song.

Florence Congregational Church, Florence MA

Part-time position as organist and music director available at Florence Congregational Church in Florence, Mass. Position includes playing the organ once a week on Sunday mornings and leading the choir with choir practice one evening a week (when the pandemic and numbers allow). Position pays $125/week.
